De Thomas Church will be open on Monday November 2, 2020 for everyone who wants to light a candle and mention the names of those who are missed. You are welcome to come to the church and remember everyone who lives on in your heart. The pastor is around in case you want to have a short conversation. We are open from 7PM until 10PM. Your visit is corona proof for you will be guided past a designated route through the church.
De Thomas is a unique place on the edge of the Zuidas where you are welcome to escape the daily hustle. De Thomas organizes several events connected to culture, literature and spirituality. Reverend Evert Jan de Wijer: “We are organizing this evening for everyone to feel connected. Connected to those who have passed away, to the community and to fellow grievers. With the start of winter, when the days get shorter, we celebrate All Souls’ Day. In the Christian tradition, we remember those who have passed away on that day. We want to make this a day on which people can find solace with each other. During these new corona countermeasures people already feel disconnected from each other. We want to share the feeling that you are not alone.”
The corona countermeasures keep people at home, but they can still take a walk and come to De Thomas. The church has a route past the chapel inside, where candles can be lit. This will be one way and there will be a maximum number of people allowed in the church. This will guarantee a very low risk event. You will be able to meet with the pastor and you can add the names of those you miss to the wall in the church. You will be offered a hot drink to make you feel welcome. You do not have to sign up but please be prepared to accept short waiting times. We recommend you check out this pag on the web site on the day itself, if there are any last minute announcements.
You are welcome at Prinses Irenestraat 36, Amsterdam Zuid.
