Kom tijdens WorldPride Amsterdam naar De Thomas voor een speciale vertoning van de bekroonde documentaire 1946: The Mistranslation That Shifted Culture. De documentaire onderzoekt hoe het woord ‘homoseksueel’ in 1946 voor het eerst in een Engelse bijbelvertaling verscheen en welke blijvende invloed die vertaling heeft gehad op geloofsgemeenschappen en het leven van lhbtiqa+-mensen over de hele wereld.

Na de vertoning volgt een paneldiscussie onder leiding van de Nederlandse kunstenaar Jarko De Witte van Leeuwen, maker van ‘The Growing Wall of Love’, met deelname van filmmaker Sharon “Rocky” Roggio, associate producer Josie Peres, dominee Jide Macaulay, dominee Alexander Noordijk en Ramon Roks. Samen zullen zij terugblikken op de film en ingaan op thema’s als geloof, inclusie, mensenrechten en de toekomst van lhbtiqa+-gemeenschappen binnen religieuze gemeenschappen. Na de film is er ruimte om na te praten en kun je deelnemen aan het wereldwijde lhbtiqa+-community kunstproject ‘The Growing Wall of Love’.

Join us during WorldPride Amsterdam for a special screening of the award-winning documentary 1946: The Mistranslation That Shifted Culture at De Thomas.

The documentary explores how the word “homosexual” first appeared in an English Bible translation in 1946 and the lasting impact that translation has had on faith communities and LGBTQIA+ lives around the world.

Following the screening, a panel discussion moderated by Dutch artist Jarko De Witte van Leeuwen, creator of The Growing Wall of Love, will feature filmmaker Sharon “Rocky” Roggio, associate producer Josie Peres, Rev. Jide Macaulay, Rev. Alexander Noordijk, and Ramon Roks. Together, they will reflect on the film and explore themes of faith, inclusion, human rights, and the future of LGBTQIA+ belonging within religious communities. Audience members will have the opportunity to participate in a live Q&A.

The evening concludes with a reception until approximately 22:15hrs, offering time to connect with panelists, meet fellow attendees, and continue the conversation over drinks. You will also have the opportunity to join the global lgbtqia+ community art project The Growing Wall of Love with your live picture being taken.
